Warrantless Drones Spying On Americans
We are some distance away from circumstances that led our forefathers to rebel against their government, but I fear the “frog in pot of water” syndrome where we allow bites and nibbles before we suddenly say “oh shit, too late”.
I do not wish to become an outlaw, but I will not bow to tyranny. Sooner or later, all of us must draw the line.
Eight Things to Expect Under Martial Law:
1. Detention without charges. Expect precautionary arrests, pre-crime prosecution, warrantless no-knock home invasions and mass relocations. Should anybody believe mass relocations is a stretch, recall the forced removal of Japanese Americans from the western coastal states to inland camps. Recall Civil Defense in World War II and the Cold War was about more than blackouts and bomb shelters, it was authorized to relocate populations of whole regions should the order be given. Also expect Bills of Attainder, i.e., laws which designate criminal demographics rather than criminal activities, meaning criminalization of those parts of the citizenry they identify with dissent or opposition.
2. Confiscation of property. This includes wealth in any form: bank accounts, stock portfolios, bonds, retirement funds including 401Ks, croplands, the family car, real estate—especially if adjacent to federal facilities or major bridges or power transmission nodes or international borders, or if it has a nice view some Diversity Director really likes, &c. Expect industries or entire sectors of the economy to be nationalized, railroads and power plants for example. Expect private or commercial stocks of rare earths, precious metals, fuels and such to be seized as "strategic materials." Recall confiscation of privately held—i.e., "hoarded"—gold in the 1930s using the Trading With The Enemy Act of 1917.
3. Restricted travel. Expect a standard universal identification system, curfews, travel permits amounting to internal passports, no-travel lists, security checkpoints and a priority system for users of each mode of travel. Expect "refugees" and "domestic terrorists" being transported to "resettlement centers" to have a high priority. Parts of the interstate highway may be intermittently or permanently closed to civilians. Automobiles built before GPS devices and other self-reporting black boxes may command a premium. Expect indirect travel restrictions. Recall new automobile tires weren't merely rationed in the US during World War II, they were unavailable, although freely sold to anybody in Canada and Mexico, and "anybody" included border state residents and black marketeers.
4. Restricted communications. Expect disinformation, anti-rumor campaigns, on-site advisors for editors and news broadcasters, and protective custody for dissident commentators. Internet access will be throttled back and conditional as will be alternative forms of communications, amateur short wave radio for instance. Some opposition sites will be covertly run by the regime as "honey pot" sting operations. Wikileaks is a likely template. During World War II it was illegal to photograph rail and seaport facilities or the like. Expect photography in formerly public areas to be presumed evidence of domestic terrorism, especially of official interactions with civilians, as will be possession or circulating such photos or videos.
5. Weapons confiscation. Expect revocation of licenses and permits, an expanded list of proscribed weapons—muzzle loaders, bows, knives, even sporting slingshots. Expect the usual confiscation tactics: amnesty collection drives, tracing ownership through registrations and vendor records of accessories purchases, incentives to inform authorities of weapons possession or ammunition trading and the like. Many doomers with buried weapons will be unpleasantly surprised at how public their stash really is. Zero tolerance in the schools foretells the spirit of martial law toward weapons. Zero tolerance originated in occupied Europe where, say, merely handling the rusted remains of a gun found among the rubble meant on-the-spot execution.
6. Centralized allocation of commodities and goods. Expect rationing of all goods, including food, clothing, fuel, water, and electricity. Expect the rationing system to be complex, ever-changing, incentivized and corrupt. Favored persons, activities and businesses will be generously supplied "in the interest of the greater good." Anti-hoarding laws, already in place, will ensure a general improvidence and dependency. They allow citizens to stock provisions for about the same time period as the DHS recommends for emergencies, seven to ten days. Coincidence?
7. Citizen surveillance. Expect the "See something, Say something" campaign to become a fully developed citizen surveillance system along the lines of Cuba's Rapid Action Brigades with "guidance" on reportable instances using "public service" announcements. The IRS's "whistle blower" program may be a template for structured rewards. Participation in the black market (formerly, free market) is likely to be high on the list, including barter or transactions involving precious metals, even for otherwise legal goods or services. Expect abuse of the citizen surveillance system for personal advantage, extortion or revenge.
8. Price, wage and currency controls. Expect prices and wages to be capped and money transfers to be restricted and closely monitored. Currency is all but untraceable, look for replacement by small denomination scrip and auditable instruments similar to SNAP EBT cards for all else. The $100 bill is the largest circulating denomination precisely because it is inconveniently small for large purchases. Expect ruinous currency controls, a form of confiscation to keep wealth from accompanying its owner, used by totalitarian states to prevent escape or to impoverish dissenters when expelled.

PRESIDENT'S GUNS
"By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fear of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the 2nd amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationship, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the 2nd Amendment will always be important."

GEORGE WASHINGTON
Marquis de Lafayette, a young French soldier who volunteered to fight for the United States, gave Washington this pair of saddle pistols with barrels made of Damascus steel. Washington reportedly carried these sidearms at Valley Forge, Monmouth, Yorktown and during the Whiskey Rebellion as President. Washington maintained possession of the pistols until his death in 1799. Andrew Jackson owned them for a spell, until bequeathing them back to the Lafayette family.

James Madison was presented with this pair of fully functioning pistols by South American General Ignacio Alvarez, reportedly crafted from meteorite iron found in the Campo del Cielo crater in Argentina. Alvarez' words were accepted as fact until nearly 200 years later when science took a closer look and determined the pistols weren't made from meteoric iron. After Madison's passing, James Monroe took possession of the guns.

ANDREW JACKSON
"Old Hickory" dueled it out with more than one opponent with pistols, including an incident in which he was dueling Charles Dickinson. Dickinson shot first, hitting Jackson in the chest. Jackson then took aim and pulled the trigger only to be greeted with a misfire, which according to dueling rules counts as a shot. Jackson pulled the hammer back again and pulled the trigger, and killed Dickinson with his second effort. Jackson then returned to his office and worked at his desk the rest of the day before seeking medical aid; he lived another nineteen years with the lead ball in his chest. Andrew Jackson also helped Colt Firearms get noticed after giving his stamp of approval to the newly designed revolver.
The above percussion pistol was reportedly owned by Jackson and was made circa 1830.

He wrote:
The American Dream ended (on November 6th) in Ohio. The second term of Barack Obama will be the final nail in the coffin for the legacy of the white Christian males who discovered, explored, pioneered, settled and developed the greatest Republic in the history of mankind.
A coalition of Blacks, Latinos, Feminists, Gays, Government Workers, Union Members, Environmental Extremists, The Media, Hollywood, uninformed young people, the "forever needy," the chronically unemployed, illegal aliens and other "fellow travelers" have ended Norman Rockwell's America.
The Cocker Spaniel is off the front porch . . . the Pit Bull is in the back yard.
The American Constitution has been replaced with Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" and Chicago shyster, David Axelrod, along with international Socialist George Soros will be pulling the strings on their beige puppet to bring us Act 2 of the New World Order.
Our side ran two candidates who couldn't even win their own home states, and the circus fattster Chris Christie helped Obama over the top with a glowing "post Sandy" tribute that elevated the "Commander-in-Chief" to Mother Teresa status. (Aside: with the way the polls were run, he didn't need any help!)
People like me are completely politically irrelevant, and I will never again comment on or concern myself with the aforementioned coalition which has surrendered our culture, our heritage and our traditions without a shot being fired.
You will never again out-vote these people. It will take individual acts of defiance and massive displays of civil disobedience to get back the rights we have allowed them to take away. It will take Zealots, not moderates--not reach-across-the-aisle RINOs to right this ship and restore our beloved country to its former status.
Those who come after us will have to risk their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to bring back the Republic that this generation has timidly frittered away due to "white guilt" and political correctness.....
I'm done.

CVS Ordering Workers To Reveal Weight, Health Info
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — Pharmacy giant CVS has told workers in the Bay Area and around the nation to reveal their weight and other health information, or pay extra for health coverage.
The company announced Wednesday what it called “A Plan for Health,” that features a mix of rewards and penalties for employees.
Among the measures, employees must report their weight, body fat, cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Workers must also be tobacco free or enroll in an addiction program by next year.
One of the first things you learn in the Army is "You take the King's schilling . . . " meaning they pay so you do what they say. That's OK in a volunteer outfit, but in the old days "The King's schilling" had a more sinister connotation.
So it is with ObamaCare - the American people have lost a significant amount of freedom of choice. CVS is not driving these requirements; there will be more and more businesses demanding private health information from employees. What follows is they start telling you what you can and cannot eat - Mayor Big Gulb Bloomburg is already there - and then a keytag with a barcode that you better swipe at the gym, and log into the treadmill. Can't own a gun because that's a health risk, too.
Mark my words.
Wait and see, people.

Police: Man claims to be CIA agent, pulls gun over parking spot
Police reports say Ryan C. Duff, who claimed to be a CIA agent and Navy SEAL, pulled a small handgun with red laser from his waistband and pointed it a man, saying, “I don’t want you parking in front of my apartment.” / Booking photo
A Palm Bay FL man who said he was a CIA agent when he allegedly threatened another man with a handgun — apparently over a parking issue – is facing a felony charge.
Police reports say Ryan C. Duff pulled a small handgun with red laser from his waistband and pointed it a man, saying, “I don’t want you parking in front of my apartment.”
Duff, 35, lives in the 200 block of Interchange Drive, where the incident occurred late Friday.
The man allegedly threatened the victim and the victim’s family as they were walking to their car. The police report says Duff told them he “killed people like you everyday” and “watch where you park bro.”
Officers surrounded Duff’s apartment and the suspect came out when police knocked on his door. He had a small black handgun at the time and upon police instruction dropped the weapon and got on the ground, the report says.
“While Ryan was in custody, he stated that the ‘worked for the CIA and is also a Navy Seal member’,” his arrest report reads. “Ryan appeared to be under the influence of some substance, he was being belligerent and not being cooperative.”
Duff was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill. He was taken to jail and posted bond and has been released, according to jail records.
Yah WHATEVER . . . this guy has an interesting fantasy life. I can't believe they let him out on bail . . .

BRITISH HEROES
Military Honours: Heroes Rewarded For Bravery
Lance Corporal Abbie Martin, 20, said she was "petrified" as she treated the injured comrade in Afghanistan with bullets flying overhead - but "my training kicked in".
L/Cpl Martin was on her first tour of duty and leapt into action when she heard there was a "man down" on the battlefiield.
"At first I was hiding and then everyone was giving me fire support so I could get to the guy and treat him," she said. "I was just thinking about the casualty - all the things I could do for him - my training just kicked in - as well as not getting shot. It was the most petrifying experience of my life but I knew I had that job and I had to do it."
Several days later, despite a struggle to come to terms with the horror of her first patrol, she treated multiple casualties after a grenade blast, saving all the injured.
Cpt Dobbin received the Military Cross for personally leading a 200m charge at insurgents in Nahr-e-Saraj last summer.
Captain Michael Dobbin, 28, Grenadier Guards, was on the same patrol with L/Cpl Ashworth, who gave his life, earning the Victoria Cross (yesterday's post - S.L.).
Lance Corporal Lawrence Kayser fought with shrapnel in his arm.
Lance Corporal Lawrence Kayser, 27, was awarded the Military Cross for saving fellow soldiers from a "potentially disastrous situation" in Helmand in June 2012 when his platoon came upon the enemy while preparing an ambush.
When his platoon suddenly came under fire, L/Cpl Kayser leapt from a ditch and charged Taliban fighters, shooting one enemy in his path before being hit by shrapnel from a grenade, which wounded his arm, but fought on, driving insurgents out of the compound.
At one point L/Cpl came face-to-face with the insurgent he said: "It was a surprise for both of us. Neither of us thought the other was there. I just had the feeling I wanted all the angles covered. He had an AK47. We both raised our rifles at the same time but I fired from the hip. Luckily he missed but I clipped him in the abdomen. He dived back as I dived to the side."
Sgt Geddes "breathed fire into the spirit of his men."
Sergeant Roy Geddes, 43, from the RAF Regiment, received the Military Cross after battling insurgents when they attacked Camp Bastion in September last year. He fought on despite being wounded in the knee after one of his vehicles was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.
Sgt Geddes is only the second member of the RAF to receive the MC for action in Afghanistan. He is recognised alongside Corporal Kurt Lee, 28, also from the RAF, who is Mentioned In Despatches for his own role in the battle.

L/Cpl JAMES ASHWORTH VC, KIA 13-6-12 Afghanistan
The Victoria Cross is the highest award for gallantry for the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Is the equivalent of the Medal of Honor. Since the Second World War, the Victoria Cross has only been awarded 10 times to British soldiers. - S.L.
Lance-Corporal James Ashworth became the first recipient of the Victoria Cross since 2006 - awarded posthumously.
L/Cpl Ashworth, from Corby, Northamptonshire, was killed as he stormed an insurgent position in the Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand in June 2012.
L/Cpl Ashworth and his platoon were ordered into Nahr-e-Saraj on June 13 to engage an insurgent sniper team. They came under fire as soon as they landed, prompting L/Cpl Ashworth to lead his team in a 300-metre charge to the enemy position in a local village. Two insurgents were killed in this initial attack but a follow-up assault by Afghan police stalled when a patrolman was shot and killed as the enemy fled.
The citation for the Victoria Cross reveals "supremely courageous and inspiring" actions:
Despite the ferocity of the insurgent's resistance, Ashworth refused to be beaten. His total disregard for his own safety in ensuring that the last grenade was posted accurately was the gallant last action of a soldier who had willingly placed himself in the line of fire on numerous occasions earlier in the attack.
With no regard for his own safety, L/Cpl Ashworth again led from the front of his team, advancing on an insurgent compound and using grenades to drive the final remaining enemy to an outbuilding. The insurgent was now being supported by fire from several positions, with the enemy desperate to protect their sharpshooter team. The immediate priority for L/Cpl Ashworth's team was now to neutralise the final sharpshooter and extract as soon as possible.
Seeking to break the stalemate using his final grenade, L/Cpl Ashworth dropped to the floor and crawled behind a knee-high wall that ran parallel to the front of the outbuilding. With just enough cover to conceal his prostrate form, he inched forward on his belly. Bullets flew over his head as he edged forward and the enemy continued to engage the rest of his team. When he was within five metres of the insurgent's position L/Cpl Ashworth was desperate to make his last grenade count. He deliberately crawled out from behind the wall, exposing himself to fire to get a better angle for his throw.
L/Cpl Ashworth was now in full view of the enemy just metres away, with rounds hitting the floor just centimetres around him. He was preparing to throw the grenade when he was tragically hit by enemy fire.
L/Cpl Ashworth's comrades spoke of their pride in his bravery and told how the death of such an "outstanding soldier" would affect the battalion.
His company commander, Captain Mike Dobbin said: "Lance Corporal Ashworth was killed while fighting his way through compounds; leading his fire team from the front, whilst trying to protect his men; and he showed extraordinary courage to close on a determined enemy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his girlfriend, who should be extremely proud of the courage he displayed and the life that he led.
"I am humbled by what I saw of Lance Corporal Ashworth's actions and will never forget him."
Guardsman Jordan Loftus said: "Selfless, brave, courageous - words like these don't come close to what Ash demonstrated that day."
L/Cpl Ashworth was a soldier for five years and came from a family with strong military links. His mother Kerry, father Duane, a former Grenadier, and brother Coran, 22, a serving soldier, were present at Buller Barracks, Aldershot Army base, Hampshire, where the citation for the Victoria Cross was read aloud.
As well as his parents and brother Coran, L/Cpl Ashworth left behind sisters, Lauren and Paige, brother Karl and four-year-old niece Darcy, as well as his girlfriend, Emily.
This brave young man demonstrated Heroism of the highest degree. Honor him.

COMING SOON TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
By the end of the decade they say we're going to have about 40,000 of these cool mini-drones snooping around the place . . . S.L.
Of course the next logical step is to mount a pair of miniature belt-fed .22LR M1919 machineguns across the tops of your skids and suddenly you've got some serious ORDINANCE:
Here's The Scenario:
Society has decayed to the point where the scuzzballs from the city are mounting raids on the houses in the rural parts of the county where you live. It's a win-win for them because the people out in the remote parts have plenty of good stuff to steal, wives & daughters to rape or haul off, and there's no law enforcement presence to speak of. All they need to do is show up in groups of three or more and rape, kill, pillage and burn - just like the good old days of Atilla and Genghis Khan.
Your early warning devices alerts you to the presence of these reprobates, so you hurry the wife & kids down into the armored panic room you've got set up in the basement. Then - while the shitheads are ransacking the place upstairs - you log into your intranet (computer & server backed up by UPS because the slimeballs opening move was to cut the power to disable your alarm monitoring system - which shows how stupid they are because the alarms system is also backed up by UPS).
The signal goes from your computor station within the panic room to your personal Death-Copter 5000, a.k.a. The Thing From Outer Space, located in an improvised hanger in the loft of your barn. The Thing starts itself up, takes off and buzzes over and puts a couple bursts into the radiator of their car plus takes out all the tires for good measure. Then the Thing goes into a hover, waiting for the shitheads as they come out and see what happened to their car. At this point it's up to you whether you gun them down as they pile out the door of your house or wait until they're clustered around the car staring in disbelief.
Of course you've got video of the entire episode to enjoy forever the dumfounded looks of consternation and disbelief as the green-toothed slimemolds realize that toy flying around is the last thing they're going to see before Satan gives them their inbriefing at the Gates of Hell.
Heh . . . the thought of this kind of amusement makes homemade pumpkin-chunking trebuchets and fishing with Dupont spinners almost fade in comparison . . . heh . . .

OLD PLAYGROUND
Sent in by my good friend VA Shepard, charter member of Team StormBringer:
I hiked this ridge in the Southern Japan Alps in August '94. The first picture is taken from Oku-Hodaka. That peak in the distance is Yari-ga-take. It's a Japanese tradition to watch the sunrise from that peak, but a round-eye beat them to the top that morning. Its the roof of Japan - I could see across the whole island from East to West.

DISARMING AMERICANS
They said the Government would never come into my house and confiscate my weapons. They said.
Disarming American citizens, Obama style:
Presently flying under the radar of the American people is the much misunderstood, deliberately mischaracterized and under-reported United Nation’s Arms Trade Treaty. Considering the persistent multi-level attacks against U.S. gun owners and American’s rights under the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the “Final U.N. Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty” that convened yesterday (3/18/2013) and is scheduled to last through March 28, 2013 should be front page news all across America. But it’s not, and for good reason.
Most people, including conservative Americans thought the United Nation’s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) was a dead issue, or at least not a threat to U.S. gun owners based on a number of assumptions relating to international treaties and U.S. Constitutional law. Like everything else with the Obama regime, however, things are never what they appear, nor are they as simple as we are led to believe.
Barack Hussein Obama is on record as being against the private ownership of firearms by American citizens.
Barack Hussein Obama has a long and well documented history on gun control, going back as far as his law school days. There, he was mentored by Laurence Tribe, a staunch opponent to gun rights of American citizens. In 1994, Obama was a member of the Joyce Foundation, a Chicago based charitable organization that in part, is a proponent of various anti-gun groups and related agendas.
In 2003, Obama voted in support of legislation that would have banned privately owned hunting shotguns, target rifles and black powder rifles in Illinois. While running for political office in 2004, Obama called for national legislation to prevent anyone but law enforcers from carrying concealed firearms. As reported in the February 20, 2004 edition of The Chicago Tribune, Obama was quoted as “back[ing] federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons, except for law enforcement.”
. . . It should also be noted that on February 26, 2013, the American Bar Association’s Center for Human Rights issued a white paper on the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty, concluding that “the proposed ATT is consistent with the Second Amendment.” A review of this four-page document reveals certain questionable assumptions on which that conclusion is based.
This is a warning to all Americans that the Obama support of the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty can lead to some “UN-intended” consequences to American’s right to own and bear arms. Americans looking at this issue are failing to look at the larger picture, which is the ultimate subjugation of the United States to a global governance. This can most effectively be accomplished through the disarmament of its citizens, especially in the face of violent outbreaks as the U.S. and the world economic systems begin to unravel (italics mine) . . .
Read the rest of it HERE and weep, people . . .

POSSIBLY WORLD WAR II's COOLEST PHOTO
The Story Behind This Photo of a RAF Pilot:
by David Frum at The Daily Beast
Remember that photo of the RAF pilot getting his hair cut between missions?
His name was Francis Mellersh, and it turns out his daughter is a friend-of-a-friend. She sends more of the story:
We have the original of the photo, and the book (he was crazy about John Buchan) and that bloody pipe killed him in the end at 72. I'm afraid those who have been to war and daily diced with death are rather cavalier with their health. I'll tweet you a pic of him in his 60s . . . the red hair's faded to strawberry blonde but still recognisably the chap getting his hair cut.
Instead of resuming his Oxford studies at the end of the war he remained in the RAF for another 30 plus years and flew right until the end (often with the Red Arrows - stress!). He reached Air Vice Marshal and was Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff. He was a very modest man, very laid-back (that photo says it all) and spoke little of the war.
You'll like this bit. My grandfather, his father, was a WW1 ace and was on the sortie which downed the Red Baron. Forensic historians of course now say he was shot from the ground . . . my grandfather's eye witness account is often quoted. We have a little box made from Richthofen's propeller wood. He too made a career of the RAF, was in charge of operations in Burma etc in WW2 and, at one point, my father's boss . . . somewhat disastrously! He died in a bizarre accident shortly after retiring . . . ironic given he survived the RB.
My grandfather was AVM Sir Francis (FJW) Mellersh, nickname "Tog" and my father AVM Francis (FRL) Mellersh, known always as Togs (nanny's nickname ie. "of Tog"). Quite ridiculous. I have their obituaries and citations and some extracts from Aces High etc as well as my father's log book filled in somewhat irreverently. He flew Beaufighters, Mosquitoes and Spitfires.
Francis Mellersh was twice awarded Britain's Distinguished Flying Cross and was recommended for the Victoria Cross.

SNAKE FLAGS
Part of the mission of Blog STORMBRINGER is to fight ignorance and to enlighten the uninformed. Following Friday's post WHERE DO I STAND we recieved the following comment:
That "snake flag" as you call it is the Gadsdon flag, It is the battle flag of "The green mountain boys" A revolutionary war MILITIA that conducted a gurrilla war on the britts. It is Very much a flag of rebellion.
Misspellings aside, the gentleman is mistaken on at least three counts. Explanation follows:
JOIN, OR DIE
The rattlesnake as a symbol of resistance to the British in Colonial America, actually had its origins in the "JOIN, or DIE" political cartoon penned by Benjamin Franklin in 1754 during the French and Indian War. Franklin's famous woodcut showed a snake cut into 8 sections representing the colonies. Franklin said of the rattlesnake; "She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders."
The Green Mountain Boys flag did NOT have a rattlesnake.
The Green Mountain Boys flag is a green field and, in a azure canton, a constellation of 13 5-pointed stars arranged in a natural pattern. Its still in use today as the Regimental Colors of the Vermont National Guard. Furthermore, the Green Mountain Boys were not a militia, they were a regular regiment of the Continental Army:
A Green Mountain Boys Regiment was authorized by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1775 and became part of the Northern Army. Colonel Seth Warner and a regiment of 500 men were called the Green Mountain Rangers. The illustrations are the uniforms of the Rangers. Before this time, the Green Mountain Boys had no formal uniform, wearing primarily bucksin jackets and breeches.
Flag of the South
Colonel Christopher Gadsden was representing his home state of South Carolina at the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, PA when he designed the famous flag. He was one of seven members of the Marine committee who were outfitting 5 companies of Marines to accompany the Navy on their first mission. The flag's design and color matched the drums carried by the first US Marines.
Col. Gadsen presented the flag to the newly appointed commander-in-chief of the Navy Commodore Esek Hopkins, to serve as his personal standard on his flagship. Col. Gadsden also presented a copy to the Congress of South Carolina.
Not to be confused with the First Navy Jack
The First Navy Jack features an UNCOILED rattlesnake and the words "Don't Tread On Me" on a background of 13 stripes. There is question if this flag was flown prior to modern times - it appears to have been designed by English artist Thomas Hart as background art.
Commodore Hopkins, Commander-in-Chief of the American Fleet", by Thomas Hart
Flag experts (vexiologists) speculate that either the English artist Thomas Hart either did not know about the practice of rattlesnakes to coil in defense - or did, and intended to insult the fledgling American Navy as a weak and vulnerable creature as a rattlesnake is when not coiled and ready to strike, slithering on the ground, trying to escape, with its motto "(Please) Don't Tread On Me!".
Culpepper Minutemen
The flag of the Culpepper Minutemen - of Culpepper Virginia - had a coiled rattlesnake on a white background and added "Liberty or Death" to "Dont Tread On Me." The Proctor's Regiment of Westchester, PA, and the Rhode Island Militia Artillery flags also had coiled rattlesnakes. All four American designed "Rattlesnake Flags" show COILED rattlesnakes.
NOT a 'Flag of Rebellion'
To me the Snake Flag represents resistance to the threat of foreign control and domination. I fly the Snake flag here on Blog STORMBRINGER and on my car in the spirit of the TEA Party, which is to say the Spirit of Independance and the Rights and Freedoms of the American People, as espoused and enshrined in our founding documents; the Declaration of Independance, the Constitution, the Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers.
These days there is a lot of talk of a coming revolution. Personally I do not tolerate such talk - no matter how bad things are they would be ten thousand times worse if the United States dissolved and we descended into civil war.
I have seen such wars and believe me; we do not want this here. There are other ways.
"I'm not advocating sedition, but I will not bow down before tyranny either."
THIS is the flag that I love:
