P-47 THUNDERBOLT's - Actual WWII footage
The beautiful French and German countryside, juxtaposed with such wanton destruction . . . . viewing this amazing footage brings to mind Robert E. Lee's famous qoute:
"It is well that war is so terrible -- lest we should grow too fond of it."

Late WWII aviators are the luckiest men who ever lived.
ReplyDeleteWow the R-2800 double wasp engine sounds so bad ass when fired at one inch of throttle
ReplyDeleteA good deal of this footage was shot during Operation Strangle (1944) over Italy by P47's based on Corsica. Col Wyman(?) commanded one squadron referring to the base as "The Country Club". Although this in no way mitigates against the bravery of the pilots on active service wherever they served.
ReplyDeleteGreat footage. Thanks!
