Concern That Terror Teams Have Selected Targets, Ready to Strike
Strong concerns that terrorist teams in Europe have selected their targets, completed their surveillance, eluded capture and are now ready to strike at airports and tourist attractions have prompted the State Department to ready a highly unusual travel advisory for Europe, multiple law enforcement and intelligence sources tell ABC News.
Intelligence and law enforcement officials have information that the teams could at any time launch a "Mumbai style" terror attack that targets civilians for death or hostage taking. The 2008 Mumbai attack used small arms and explosives to kill 175 people and paralyze the Indian city for days.
From a security point of view, racial profiling is absolutely counter-productive.
The current concerns are for scenarios that include opening fire at airports in Europe as well as executing similar attacks at "soft" targets like tourist attractions or hotels.
Crowded European transportation facilities are obvious targets.
According to ABC News sources, the terror plotters have moved through the surveillance stage, checked back in with al Qaeda in Pakistan, and have received the go-ahead to strike.

Prepare for delays and enhanced security measures as we go into the holiday travel season.
We hope & pray this thing pans out and nothing happens . . . S.L.

I flew to Salt Lake yesterday. HS was typically unremarkable. Airports seem to be unusually busy though. If there is a threat of Mumbai style attacks they should just let me carry my nine. "An armed society is a polite society." Contrary to popular belief, a bullet hole in a pressurized aircraft hull does not cause catastrophic hull failure or explosive decompression. Besides that...pilots are carrying...don't know how safe that is...some of them might me terrorists...many are alcoholics...how safe is that? Think about it.
ReplyDeleteSpray and pray with an AK or blowing up a back pack full of C4 and nails in an airport, mall, theater etc would scare the crap out of people for awhile. It would also serve to wake them up.
ReplyDeleteIt would also piss them off. If the the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful and I don't doubt they are, it is well past time for them to really stand up and stop being afraid of the jihadis in our midst. I'm thinking they might have more to fear from the indigenous if some of these attacks take place.
As for profiling, we should learn more from the Israelis.
I know that if these monkey men pull any of this in London, the mosque near my home burns that night. Hate speach? You damned well better believe it.

When it comes to counter-terrorism, the trouble with racial profiling is purely tactical:
ReplyDeleteIf the enemy becomes aware that we are focusing on individuals of Middle-Eastern origin, they will send blond-haired, blue-eyed operators against us.
Not just Chechins; we have plenty of traitors within our own ranks, as well.
Does the name Daniel Boyd ring a bell?

It's impossible to stop an opponent who is willing to die for his/her beliefs.
ReplyDeleteThe best defense is a good offense; better to neutralize the threat on their turf than here at home.
Profiling? Yes. Racial? Uh, no. Enemies of our country and way of life, say again - enemies. There's your profile.
BTW cross ref to another of the posts, about the drug cartels with their subs. Read closely: coke-shmoke, the potential for personnel and explosive payload, like a dirty bomb in a briefcase fer gosh sakes, that worries me. The Mexican border along their coast is leaky like a sieve, take it from me I live in SW New Mexico and we have a hard time keeping out all the mooks as it is. Trained operators will skate across anywhere.
Lemme ask you this: how much C4 or anthrax or plutonium can you fit in a back pack, eh?
