PUT ME IN CHARGE
The truth hurts . . this was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco, Texas on 18 November, 2010:
Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or X box 360, then get a job and your own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a government job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the common good.
Before you write that I've violated someones rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be demeaning and ruin their self esteem consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other peoples mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

But, but, but...
ReplyDeleteThat would be Cruel and Unusual Punishment
Cruel & unusual punishment is what the rest of us call 'Our Jobs'
ReplyDelete;-)
I was wondering how long it would be before I started hearing this type of thinking. This thinking is a backlash to nanny statism.
ReplyDeleteHow many times have you had a discussion with a liberal and the general thread is, "we have to save you from yourself." "It costs US too much to let you eat or use..."
When did THEY decide that they could decide for me what is best for me?
The banning of cigarettes, salt, transfat is just the beginning. When the paternalistic geshtalt of the liberals matures; you WILL lose more of your independence.
Steve
I guess saying "get a job" will be like saying the "N" word

Oh, and in addition to the bags of rice and beans, we forgot about providing prison-style "food loaf" for free to all needy individuals. Saves them having to cook, and is more nutritionally complete. Cut down on the carb-induced diabetes, too.
ReplyDeleteBring back K-rations!
ReplyDeleteYou know honestly, I worked at a homeless shelter for veterans for a while, and this rhetoric is pretty fucking useless considering the problems they have. It's easy to say "no money for drugs" but when you can use your gov't money to buy alcohol and cigarettes before your parole officer or social worker is even awake, your argument collapses neatly like a house of cards. Go to any VA hospital and see people really just..."milking the system" when they get turned down for SSD after the VA states that their busted knee has nothing to do with the shrapnel in their calf or some other nonsense.
ReplyDeleteThere is a 3 year wait for the worst project housing anywhere in the tri-state area. The lists for Section 8 have been closed for 2 years, and they will never accept new enrollees. There is simply no "gov't funded housing" that is accessible to people, at all. At least not within 50 miles of New York City.
1 in 5 in NYC is on Food Stamps, and with only 10% unemployment, you do the math and see how many working people are still not able to make ends meet.
These guys busted their asses to get out of the system and make it on their own, but, they didn't have the skills, the education or a body that wasn't broken by the wars they were DRAFTED to serve, to do so. Your brothers, need your help. And talking down to them like this won't help.
As a Vietnam veteran l would like to point out that many of us did not blame everybody else for our problems...we took advantage of the GI Bill and got an education, training and jobs. We don't the VA for our right and health without giving up because it was too hard. Yes l help my brothers but l do not accept responsibility for their inactions.
DeleteI would say this is aimed at the people who are NOT VETERANS. Our VETERANS deserve all of the help they can get.
ReplyDeleteOUR VETERANS are being fucked every day by every single one of those "entitlements are for lazy people" politicians. OUR VETERANS were entitled to VA healthcare, disability benefits, GI Bill education stipends, and job training, in addition to social services and drug rehab.
DeleteBut, all those politicians that want to "starve the beast" can't see the forest for the trees. Remember, it takes a vet 6 months to become homeless after they return from Iraq/Afghanistan now.
That is the legacy of reduced gov't spending on services. Congratulations on throwing the baby out with the bath water.
