The winners of the 2011 Milbloggies were announced Friday, April 29 at the Sixth Annual Milblog Conference.
The Best U.S. Military Veteran Blog Award went to Neptunus Lex - a worthy blog from whom I learned this noteworthy item:
TRAP By lex, on April 29th, 2011
More info is leaking out about the Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) mission executed in Libya last month:
"As that back door opened, I see a group of young Marine recon units jump out, and that was probably the best feeling I’ve ever felt in my entire life," Major Harney said on a USAF prepared video.
Items like this, and this poignant reminder (linked, and below) illustrates the legitimate role of military bloggers - active duty, retired, wives, parents, foreign, combat correspondents, all of us out here in the military blogosphere - what they of the mainstream media dismissively refer to as pajamas media; too often it is we who are picking up the slack for them. Think about it: American and Allied service men and women are fighting and dying in three distinct campaigns of a multi-theater global war, and yet you wouldn't know it by reading the papers or watching TV. That's where the milblogs come in.
