The Battle of the Bulge was in full force 67 years ago this week; NRA's Life of Duty brings us a new video from WWII Paratrooper Walter Hughes. This story is shorter than their regular full features so it shouldn’t take too much of your time but I feel it is extremely important material. We all have something to learn from Veterans like Walter and I am deeply honored to have the privilege of presenting his story.
Battle of the Bulge: Dangerous Encounters
That is one of my favorite quotes of all times from WWII.
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered how the trooper came through the War.
Paul Albers
The version of the story that I read years ago had the name of the tank commander he said it to. In that version, the tank was commanded by Lt. Will Rogers, Jr., whose tank had gotten separated from his unit in the filing. He had started picking up other stragglers along the way when he found the single paratrooper. In response to the paratrooper, he said,' "You heard the man," declared Rogers. "Let's set up for business!"'
ReplyDeleteOther stragglers then started collecting around the location turning it into a better defended strongpoint throughout the night of Decemeber 23-24.
AIRBORNE!!
ReplyDeleteGod Bless all of our military and veterans.
My late father was likely somewhere near this location as he served with Co. K of the 325th Glider Inf. Regiment.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to all.
