CSM (Retired) GEORGE MILLER, 1955-2012
I became aware of George's passing yesterday afternoon from one of the members of Team STORMBRINGER.
George died from complications following an aneurism in the brain.
He will be buried in Arlington - I intend to be there.
I knew George Miller when I was in 3d SFG. His wife works at Headquarters, United States Army Special Operations Command (USASCO), across the street from 3d Group HQ. She was like a Den Mother to us guys; she often wore the sweatshirt from the last ODA George served on - ODA 325 (Combat Diver). I served on the same ODA.
I worked with George after his retirement when he was Security Manager at the Special Warfare Center. After I retired, George helped with references that led directly to the position I hold today in the security profession. Last time I saw him was this past August (2011) at Camp Mackall, NC. Everybody who knew George Miller remarks on the value the advice and guidance that came out of his incredible anecdotes.
George was of the Jewish faith, with family connects in Israel. Few people are aware that as a young Staff Sergeant in 1982-1983, George was seconded to the IDF. He wore an IDF uniform and rolled into Lebanon in an IDF armored personnel carrier. A true Unconventional Warrior, George had many more adventures "off the beaten path."
George Miller was a good man and an honorable Special Forces soldier, a credit to the Regiment and to the United States of America.
He will be missed - S.L.
