U.S. Army veteran joins al Qaeda-linked group after months of fighting with rebel forces in Syria
A U.S. Army veteran says he has joined an offshoot of al Qaeda after spending several months fighting alongside Syrian rebel forces.
Eric Harroun, 30, of Phoenix, has joined al Qaeda-linked group Jabhat al-Nusra in part because of his fascination with the conflict in the Middle East.
His story will undoubtedly infuriate the hundreds of thousands of service men and women who have risked their lives on the battlefields fighting al Qaeda, only to learn that he never actually served overseas for the United States, and has picked up disability pay for years before going over to fight for the terrorist-backed organization.
"Getting into al-Nusra is not rocket science," he said. "It just takes balls and brains."
I'm not sure if this guy is a traitor, but one thing's for sure he's a total idiot for publicizing himself all over the Internet. He is playing ball in a VERY dangerous neighborhood and he has brought a lot of attention to himself. This is not the way a professional operates - we use nom-de-guerre for a reason. Nothing good will come of this.

Hopefully, nothing good will. Permanently.

ReplyDeleteYikes! I certainly agree that he is bag of hammers dumb but am also inclined to think along thenlines of treason, too.
His affect appears...off and superficial. Not sure if it is because he is on camera but he appears to me to be putting on an act - the emotion for the situation just didn't look quite right.
ReplyDeleteOf course nothing good will come of this.
ReplyDeleteAnd when it does come, it couldn't happen to a more deserving guy. I just hope there are pictures, come the day.
But it's nice to confirm that if you can't hack it in the Army, Al Queda's recruiting standards are low enough that one could still get in. If they cuold absorb a sufficient number of the chairborne commandos with dress uniform pictures out of an Italian opera, and no matching DD214, and then get them killed as frosting on the cake, it might be that we've found Al Queda's special purpose in life: doing the jobs that the Stolen Valor Act won't do by itself.
I am glad to see that al-kaida has had every single mosque in afganistan wired to explode when america is withdrawn.
