‘Birther’ Doc Charged With Disobeying Orders

WASHINGTON -- An Army doctor has been charged with disobeying orders after failing to show up for duty in Afghanistan and questioning whether President Obama has the right to order him there.

Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at Fort Belvoir, Va.

The Greeley, Colo., native did not report to Fort Campbell, Ky., in April to prepare for deployment.





This is disobedience, and worse. For a field grade officer to be seen flagrantly disobeying orders borders on instigating mutiny. Whether Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, in Kenya, or on Mars is besides the point; the system is set up to make the call on it. There is no strength or honor in falling on one's sword like this.

INTERIM SITREP

Regarding yesterday's post THIS IS HOW THEY BUY YOU - several readers brought to my attention some discrepancies. The photo below, for example:


A close inspection reveals the distinctive British policeman's helmet, so what exactly is going on in that photograph I do not know. All I will say is it was included with the original article, sent to me be a member of Team STORMBRINGER. I post once a day (in this case it was done in a hurry at about zero-dark-thirty in the morning) and I was unable to do anything about it until this time.

There was some noise amongst the comments that the German's marched in prior to the Anschluss and the voting took place literally at the point of a gun. I do not remember it this way, from my history books. I'll look it up for future, because what happened in Austria is in many ways more chilling than how the Nazis came to power in Germany. The photo has been removed; Kitty Werthmann's story will remain.

While we're on the subject of comments - this is to the toolkit Dave in comments who drew a solid line of logic from my calling out Lieutenant Colonel Terrance Lakin as an idiot and a fool for refusing to obey the orders of the officers lawfully appointed over him as to somehow being equal to an endorsement of the infamous Nuremberg Defense (i.e. "I was just following orders").

Sir - OK so you might have served in the military but if you're right then the hundreds of thousands of military men & women serving honorably overseas and in this country are wrong - and that group includes some pretty serious operators with better credentials than you and me combined. Like my buddy Jimmy Sargent once said, "The whole damn French Army can't be wrong!"

I am not the only guy who called out Lakin as a loon - here's what my buddy Uncle Jimbo has to say about it over at Blackfive - So now what? Are we all Nazis? Sure I've been lied to by the Army - that's not the same thing as following illegal orders, not by a long shot. As for your uptight demand for an apology:

I am STORMBRINGER! I apologize for nothing!

In fact, I don't put myself in positions requiring me to apologize for anything; so where the HELL do you get off demanding a DAMN THING? Get your own blog and publish your stoopid birther B.S. there.

I'm a Tea Partier but that does not mean I embrace any and every Obama conspiracy theory that's out there, and I sure as Hell ain't a Nazi. I HATE NAZIS. I encountered the offspring of the Third Reich in Mostar, in the Croatian part of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the very thought of those Lugerhead-wannabes makes my skin crawl. One of the last things I did on active duty was throw a Nazi out of Special Forces and out of the Army. To call me a Nazi because I repeat the time-honored NCO wisdom of 'never attract attention to yourself' is a wild stretch and reveals a tenuous grasp on reality on YOUR part, Dave.

BIRTHER UPDATE

The tone over at American Thinker appears to be slightly sympathetic to this loon:


Before the meeting was over, LTC Lakin's Pentagon Access Pass had been revoked, and his laptop computer was set to be confiscated.

The message to LTC Lakin is clear; through official channels, he was informed yesterday that he will shortly be court-martialled for crimes (specifically, missing movement and conduct unbecoming an officer) that for others has led to lengthy imprisonment at hard labor.

Me? I personally believe Obama probably WAS born in Hawaii, but that his original birth certificate says his nationality is British (coming from a colony, technically his father was a British subject) or Kenyan. Then there's the whole two-step he did with his citizenship when he was a kid in Indonesia, but I'm prone to give him a pass on that; he was a kid - the kid takes the citizenship of his parents (in this case US and Indonesian) and when he's 18 years of age, he declares one way or the other.

Either way, it doesn't matter if he's from Hawaii, or Kenya, or Mars for that matter - they swore him in and until they undo that, he's the President of the United States. It's not up to serving officers to go out and grandstand like this, promoting disloyalty in the ranks.

Oh well, if a light colonel wants to fall on his sword, hit the self-destruct button on his own career, and make a total ass out of himself along the way, it won't be the first time. Me? I was taught to blend into the formation, be the gray man, never draw attention to yourself . . .

. . . it worked for me for twenty-five years, and I had a LOT of fun along the way!

NO SURPRISE HERE . . .

Lt. Col. Terry Lakin, a decorated Army doctor, will be court-martialed for refusing orders to go to Afghanistan until President Obama proves he was born in the United States.


On April 12 Lieutenant Colonel Terrance Lakin was ordered to report to Fort Campbell, Kentucky for deployment to Afghanistan, but reported instead at the Pentagon, where he was confronted by his brigade Commander Colonel Gordon Roberts, a Vietnam Medal of Honor recipient.

As a result, Lakin has been assigned to duty at Walter Reed pending investigation, the medical center announced in a brief statement today. Media sources are reporting that Lakin will face a court-martial for failing to show up at Fort Campbell, but the official statement makes no mention of that. Calls to Lakin’s home in Maryland are not being answered.

On March 30 Lakin announced he would not to deploy or obey any other orders until Obama produces an "original" birth certificate showing he was born in Hawaii. The Army has not yet publicly addressed the issue, noting that Lakin had not actually violated any orders. On March 31, however, he was officially counseled that he could face court-martial for being a no-show at Fort Campbell. The letter detailed several regulations that Lakin would be violating and pointed out he could be imprisoned and lose all pay and benefits, including his retirement, if convicted.


On 11 April STORMBRINGER commented on the vein of this guy's logic; I said than and I still say now he's a wingnut and I just promoted him to Chief Bottle Washer in the Tinfoil Hat Brigade.

Col. Terrence Lakin. The American Patriot Foundation, a non-profit group incorporated in 2003 to foster appreciation and respect for the U.S. Constitution, immediately announced it has set up a legal defense fund and will provide Lt. Bottom Line, STORMBRINGER:

This guy is an idiot on many different levels; I say he's a wingnut and a prime candidate for the tinfoil hat brigade.

For starters, when you don the war suit, you take an oath to ". . . uphold the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

It doesn't say the President - although admittedly he IS the Commander-in-Chief - it says the Constitution, and the officers legally appointed over you. It certainly doesn't say you've been granted the legal authority and wisdom of the Supreme Court to take Constitutional matters into your own hands.

The point is not whether or not Barack Obama was born in the United States, or Kenya, or Indonesia, or if he was born on the Moon. I myself am curious as to what Obama's original birth certificate looks like, but at this point in time it simply doesn't matter anymore - the man was sworn in by Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts with his hand on George Washington's Bible, and that makes him President of the United States - until determined otherwise by authorities a LOT higher than a whacked out lieutenant colonel who obviously has WAY too much time on his hands.

First of all, don't confuse this man's rank with any kind of military credential - they throw rank at medical officers just to make them stick around. Bear in mind that Hasan dude who shot up Fort Hood was a field grade officer, but if he was in any kind of regular military organization they would have run him out on a rail for the kind of things he was saying - I've seen it done for a lot less.

Another military doc with too much time on his hands is this candidate for Code Pink Poster Boy. Like, who gives a rat's rear end what his sexuality is? (As long as he keeps it in the closet - where it belongs - that is.) In an ongoing series of posts at Frum Forum this shrink-with-a-kink establishes his worthlessness right up front by explaining how he wandered around a combat zone, even took place on dismounted patrols - but was somehow unable to get himself issued a rifle.

One of the truisms I gathered during twenty-five years in combat arms units is that medical officers have less leadership capabilities than chaplains.

Let's get back to LTC Terrence Lakin - I'm trying to follow the man's line of reasoning here: so we've got a bunch of conflicting info out there flying all over the Internet about Barack Obama's place of birth. Based on this hyperbole, this officer is willing to throw away his position, all pay and privileges associated with his rank, and risk going to Leavenworth - NOT a nice place - over glorified "Rumor Control". Sorry, does not pass the common sense smell test.

Now a lot of people have been digging deep for proof one way or the other, and if there was a shred of evidence Obama was not qualified to be President, his many enemies would have unearthed it by now.

Our system has survived crisis for over two hundred and thirty years; we have mechanisms in place to deal with situations like this, and part of the reason our system works is it allows for the Wheels of Justice to turn at their own speed - which is second gear, at best. I do not endorse radicalism or desperate acts based on impassioned revolutionary rhetoric. A basic tenant of the Philosophy of STORMBRINGER is coolness under fire; which is defined as keeping your head when everybody around you is losing theirs.

Like my mentor Doc Cheasty said; "You take the King's schilling, you gotta do what the Man says. You don't like it, move out . . ."

There are all sorts of ways of getting out of the military if you don't want to be there. This guy chose a particularly spectacular method of disengagement . . .
