Lowell Stevens served with SOG - the secretive "Studies and Observations Group" in Vietnam; he completed six tours in Vietnam and went on to become Sergeant Major of Blue Light, the classified counter-terrorist unit that preceded Delta.

After retiring from active duty, Lowell ran Range Control for Camp MacKall, where Special Forces conducts a major portion of their training.

I knew Lowell from the years I spent at SERE; he always got a lot of respect from everyone - the old war dogs and the younger generations alike. He is in that Big Drop Zone in the Sky now.

  1. I remember him well out at Mackall, he was a great guy who didn't try to impress people with his resume, he didn't need to. Rest in Peace Brother and we'll see you at the RP...jd

  2. Thanks for posting this on my father. Dad was "one of kind" and it humbles my family with all the kind words of respect and attention. My father was not only loved by us but by almost everyone he met. Again, thanks for this post......

  3. Every so many days, I google Mr. Lowell's name because I know that I will find more wonderful words written about him. It was truly an honor to have known him. He is one of those great people that made such a huge impact on others that he will never be forgotten.

  4. I just now found out that Lowell had passed. He was one of the legendary figures in SF and Vietnam war history.
He helped me immensely in trying to get a Silver Star awarded to one of his brothers in B-50 Omega. He was a man amoungst men and will be missed.
