HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE

GENERAL GEORGE WASHINGTON
First President of the United States
22 Feb 1732 – 14 Dec 1799

Appropriately enough, today the U.S. Supreme Court will be hearing the case of Xavier Alvarez who falsely claimed to be a wounded war veteran and a Medal of Honor recipient, and will review the Stolen Valor Act.

The primary mission of Blog STORMBRINGER is to honor valorous warriors, and over the years we have participated in exposing several of phony wannabes:

If I live to be a million I will never understand what it is that motivates these kind of losers. I am not a hero, I never did anything heroic; but I served next to heroes. That is good enough - it was an honor just to be included within the ranks. What is almost even more incredulous is that there are people out there who claim that the Stolen Valor Act - a bill to amend title 18, United States Code, to enhance protections relating to the reputation and meaning of the Medal of Honor and other military decorations and awards, and for other purposes - somehow impedes Free Speech.

In other words, it is fraudulent and criminal to wear the medals and to use false claims of such decorations for profit or gain, but the act of merely claiming to have recieved the medals is not a crime - HUH ? ? ?

Only a pack of lawyers could twist shades of meaning in such a way.

I can see how this one is going to come out in the wash - they are going to relegate this to the same disgraceful category of Free Speech as flag burning.

Well this is how I read the law on that: you can burn an American flag, and you can make false claims about military experience and decorations - just don't be doing it when I'm around.
