THE LEGION

SITREP: I've been on the road this entire weekend, trading paint all up & down the I-95. Sometimes I have Internet, other times I don't - as a result Blog STORMBRINGER suffers. Things will return to normalcy . . . possibly . . . maybe . . . perhaps . . .

In the meantime here's some coolness on the Legion Etranger (French Foreign Legion):

No shortage of good stuff on the web about this honorable outfit. Check out the Diary of a Legionnaire.

I was in a combat situation where the Legion was present: Cote d'Ivoire, 2004. It was no big deal and anyway I don't do 'war stories' but I will say this: they were a welcome sight. I give them "Respect."

An FAFN rebel has been caught by French Foreign Legion troops while attacking locals for food and other goods needed for the war effort - Cote d'Ivoire, 2004.

  1. I think beyond its reputation as an elite unit often engaged in serious fighting, the recruitment practices of the French Foreign Legion have also led to a romantic view of it being a place for a wronged man to leave behind his old life to start a new one, yet also full of scoundrels and men escaping justice.
