Can't figure out what distance he is shooting one inch groups. If it's 100 yds. then I'd say he wasted his money. My stock Rem. .223 bolt action could do that all day long. And I only paid a couple hundred dollars and it came with a scope. I'd say for "buggin out" your money is better spent on ammo. You could use ammo for barter when times get tough.

ReplyDeleteVideos work here. First video is right on; for years, since the dry up of USGI forged parts, Springfield's offering has been spiraling downwards in terms of quality and reliabilty, let alone inherent accuracy.
ReplyDeleteI had a Norinco rebuilt by Fulton for the last 10 years (that I finaly sold) and never had an issue. All USGI parts, forged receiver, chrome lined USGI bbl; inherent accuracy was amazing with surplus ammo. Especially with a chrome lined barrel. 1 MOA consistent (from the bench) out to 500 meters. Practical shooting (AQT type courses of fire) was within 3 - 4 MOA on all courses of fire.
I enjoyed it while I had it....very much.
I bought mine about 1976 when they were brand new on the market. Almost all GI parts. NM configuration. SA did send me a replacement bolt a year or so later for a reason I forgot. Great rifle. Has an ARTII scope I bought from the scope designer, Jim Leatherwood, whom I went to college with.

DeleteAnone know when SA swithed to MIM parts? I've a standard battle rattle from the early 80's. USGI or MIM? Smartest thing this college boy did back then! Even went up to the factory, got the tour, and picked it up there. Yep, the good ol' days.
