From The Sunday Times
May 30, 2010

Three German-built Israeli submarines equipped with nuclear cruise missiles are to be deployed in the Gulf near the Iranian coastline.

The first has been sent in response to Israeli fears that ballistic missiles developed by Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, a political and military organisation in Lebanon, could hit sites in Israel, including air bases and missile launchers.

The submarines of Flotilla 7 — Dolphin, Tekuma and Leviathan — have visited the Gulf before. But the decision has now been taken to ensure a permanent presence of at least one of the vessels.

The flotilla’s commander, identified only as “Colonel O”, told an Israeli newspaper: “We are an underwater assault force. We’re operating deep and far, very far, from our borders.”

Each of the submarines has a crew of 35 to 50, commanded by a colonel capable of launching a nuclear cruise missile . . .

  1. Checkmate!

  2. Dumb question many ICBM's or bombs or whatever these subs carry...carry?
I assume they need to have "tenders" within a certain amount of distance to be rearmed quickly. And if those "tenders" are close enough; why don't they do the bombardment?
What would the likely targets for these sub to land missles be? And would they produce enough of an effect to really be worth all the posturing?
Lots more questions rattling around this old noggin...but you may discuss amongst yourselves now.

  4. Kickass Gene Simmons tribute to US military. (

  5. Steve-

They do not carry ICBMs. They carry 1500km cruise missiles. 10 tubes, 6 reloads. You do the math.

The Israelis measure wars in days or hours. They would go in with a list of targets and that would be that.

The likely targets would be Iranian nuke facilities and/or military sites. The likely payload would nullify your final question.

Now go buy some chinese sex stuff and a completly OT Gene Simmons ad. I guess since Gene is an Israeli it's not totally OT.

  6. Thanks Philistine for the info..sometimes when I get home from the salt mine; I'm too pooped to look up stuff for my knowledge.
I don't know if I would really like chinese sex stuff...I mean you have it and then an hour later you get hungry for it again!
