It's my experience that American servicemembers - in or out of uniform - are led to the front of the line and often given upgrades. G4S is already behind the 8-ball for flubbing the Olympic security; now this.

NORTH KOREA ENDS PEACE ACCORD WITH SOUTH

The technical term for this is "saber rattling" - S.L.




North Korea's latest temper tantrum is to declare it is ending the peace accord with South Korea, in response to the United Nations Security Council’s vote Thursday punishing it for nuclear testing. The unanimous approval of the strict sanctions came in spite of threats from the pint-sized pipsqueak prince of Pyongyang, who claimed he would retaliate against the United States and engulf Washington in a “sea of fire.” Pyongyang does possess nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles, and western intelligence sources state that they are ready to launch at any time.



The Republic of (South) Korea has responded by warning that if North Korea does attack with a nuclear weapon, Kim Jong-un’s regime “will be erased from the earth.”


North Korea is a Criminal Regime:

A new publication by the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea shows the growth of concentration camps inside the isolated country. Anything between 150,000 and 200,000 citizens (Amnesty International) via are thought to be detained in one of at least six of the DPRK’s internment facilities. In all but one, inhabitants are there for life.



The report contains recent satellite images of one such institution in the North-East of the country, known as Camp 25. The pictures show that the area of the internment center, which increased in size by 72% between 2009 and 2010, is still growing. Guards, sentry posts and what are thought to be a crematory and gallows are all visible.




I've served in Korea, of course, and like all US servicement what I learned is that our troops are not in Korea to keep the North from going south. Rather, our troops have been in Korea since 1953 to keep the South from going NORTH. Of all the nasty regimes on this planet, North Korea is probably hands down the most brutal and oppressive. If you ask me, this latest development might be a good opportunity to pull our troops back from the DMZ and simply unleash the RoK's.

FORMER :

(English) - having been previously; onetime ( i.e. a former athlete )


EX :

(Latin) - Out of, Out from ( ablative form )


A couple years back I was sitting across a table from a retired Recon Marine and he repeated a phrase I have heard before: "There's no such thing as a former Marine."

The only difference between what he said and the way it was originally told to me; "There's no such thing as a former Green Beret."



I am a retired Special Forces soldier, still serving in other capacities. I consider myself a soldier, I use the skills acquired in a quarter a century of soldiering in my work today. There is nothing "former" about my status; I maintain the capabilities that a Special Forces soldier represents.

When I introduce myself within professional circles, I refer to myself as "ex-military" - meaning I'm out of the military. It doesn't mean the military is out of me.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO CATCH WILD PIGS?

The following is reprinted as a special request - originally part of a larger post ARE WE THERE YET? - feel free to copy & paste and distribute far & wide - S.L.





You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.

At first the wild pigs will look at the fence with suspicion and distrust, but eventually their hungry bellies and the sight of the free corn will overcome their natural instincts. The wild pigs will begin to eat the corn again and soon they will get used to the fence

When this happens you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again.

You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat.

When the time is right, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught.

Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, and so they accept their captivity.




This is exactly what I see happening to America. The Federal Government keeps pushing us toward Socialism, keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, disability, Obamacare, etc. We continue to lose our freedoms - just a little at a time.

THE REAL WARHORSE: SSG RECKLESS, USMC

Reckless was a pack horse during the Korean war, and she carried recoil-less rifles, ammunition and supplies to Marines. Nothing too unusual about that, lots of animals got pressed into doing pack chores in many wars.

But this horse did something more . . . during the battle for a location called Outpost Vegas, this mare made 50 trips up and down the hill, on the way up she carried ammunition, and on the way down she carried wounded soldiers.

Incredibly, she made every one of those trips through enemy fire and without anyone leading her.
