GOVT SHUTDOWN DOES NOT SHUTDOWN VETS

WWII Vets Knock Over Shutdown Barrier to Visit WWII Memorial

A group of World War II veterans in an Honor Flight group Tuesday knocked over barriers imposed during the government shutdown at the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C., to get inside.

As part of the federal government shutdown, national parks are closed. But the group of veterans continued to the monument Tuesday, as reported by Stars and Stripes reporter Leo Shane:

Honor flight vets just knocked over the barriers at the WWII memorial to get inside, shutdown or no.

No sign of folks leaving. The vets have control of the memorial.

God Bless the World War II Vets - they didn't let the Third Reich or Imperial Japan stop them - did anybody really think a bunch of Park Police and Rangers in Smokey the Bear hats were gonna slow them down?

  1. It was an especially stupid form of "shutdown kabuki" to erect barriers to block access to a memorial that's open 24 / 7 / 365. That's insanely moronic even by Obama standards. It'll cost a lot more to keep it closed than to leave it open and unstaffed.

In fact, I recommend that most of the National Park Service be abolished; most of the maintenance can be privatized cheaper, the docents are largely volunteers anyway, and get the States to do the basic police work. In fact, give them all to the States entirely.

  2. Food for thought... saw this written about yesterday; if all non-essential personnel are being furloughed does this include the White House Chefs and staff? I truly would pay to see Ms POTUS opening a can of beans!

God Bless the Vets of America!

  3. Now the weasels have wired the barriers together by all accounts. Time to buy wirecutters and remind the US Government that it exists to SERVE the People. This is just "Il Duce" Obama throwing his toys out of the pram because he hasn't got his own way.
